At the start of the 2024 school year, we released a basic calculator that teachers can make available to all or selected students. The calculator supports basic calculations with multiplication, subtraction, division, and addition. It is designed for teachers who do not want to add GeoGebra as a resource to an assignment but still want to offer students the ability to perform simple calculations.
Make the calculator available to all students in the assignment
- Log in to Trelson and select/create the test/assignment where you want to activate the calculator.
- Activate the calculator under "Accessibility" found in the assignment settings. If you've already created the assignment, click "All settings" to expand the additional settings and activate the calculator. Don't forget to click "Save" if you changed the settings in an existing assignment.
- Done! Now the students can open and close the calculator as they wish once they've entered the assignment.
Make the calculator available to selected students in the assignment
- Log in to Trelson and select/create the test/assignment where you want to activate the calculator.
- Once you've added students to the assignment, click on the three dots to the right of the row with the student who should have access to the calculator.
- Click on "Customizations" and change to "Enabled" under the heading "Basic Calculator".
- Done! Now only the selected student will have access to the calculator during the assignment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I grant access to the calculator to a student during an ongoing test?
Yes, you can. Log in to Trelson as a teacher and grant the student access to the calculator as instructed earlier in the article. Then ask the student to exit the assignment and re-enter it. The student will need to enter the PIN code to resume, but once they are back in the assignment, the calculator will be available to them.
How do I grant students access to a graphing calculator?
If you need, for example, a graphing calculator or other more advanced calculator functions, go to the "Resources" tab and choose to add GeoGebra to the assignment. You can read more about GeoGebra as a resource in this support article.
