We've developed two ways to lock the device on a Chromebook. You can choose either one when the student uses a Chromebook. What they have in common is that both require a Chrome Upgrade license.
- Installation of the Kiosk app (Chrome OS)
Device management
Log in to the “Administrator console” for your Google Workspace for Education domain and choose Devices > Chrome > Apps & Extensions and then Kiosks
Choose organization
In the menu to the left, decide which organization you want to install the app to.
NOTE: Keep in mind that the application is installed on the Chromebooks tied to the organization, not on the user accounts in the organization.
Click “Add” and choose “Add from Chrome Web Store”.
Search for Trelson Assessment Proctor for Chrome devices and click “Select”.
Chrome Web Store
If prompted, accept the app permissions on behalf of your organization.
Now your students are ready to use the Kiosk application
2. Install and use a Chrome Extension (Proctor)
With the Proctor extension, we can control most of Chrome OS, but some settings will need to be made in your domain to ensure security with Proctor.
- Policy: Multiple sign-in access
Set this to Block multiple sign-in access for users in this organization - Policy: Developer tools
Set this to Never allow use of built-in developer tool - Policy: Incognito mode (Optional)*
Set this to Never allow incognito
* (Optional) Use Trelson Assessment Proctor with Incognito mode allowed
If you want students to have access to Incognito mode on their Chromebooks, check the box in your Trelson Organization c.
When the students start their exam, they will be met with the word HELP instead of the button OPEN.
When they click on HELP, a dialogue box is displayed with a link that they should click.
Students are then sent to the settings for the extension where they will have the option "Allow in incognito".
Apps & extensions: Additional application settings
- Policy: Android applications on Chrome Devices
We are unable to block Android applications for now. It is up to you to choose what applications to be allowed
