Copying Assessments set up in Templates

I have an assignment template which I use for our exams but when I copy it, it loses the metadata and where the files will be saved, and resorts back to an assessment, not an assessment from template.  Could the copy function be changed so that the format of the assignment template isn't lost when copying?
