As of June 2025, Trelson can be integrated with either Google for Education or Microsoft 365 for Education. However, it is important to note that these two environments are completely separate within Trelson. Your organization can only have one integration path: either with your Google domain or your Microsoft domain. Trelson should not be integrated with both at the same time.
Installing and using Trelson in both environments will result in two separate, unconnected instances. Data, users, and settings cannot be shared or synced between them. Attempting to use both will lead to duplicate environments, and confusion among users.
Because Trelson now supports Single Sign-On (SSO) with both Google and Microsoft, this may create uncertainty in organizations where both platforms are used. Users may not know which login method to choose, increasing the risk of logging into the wrong environment.
Important if your school combines Google and Microsoft
Some schools allow users to access Google using their Microsoft accounts. When both the "Sign in with Google" and "Sign in with Microsoft" options appear in Trelson, users may accidentally choose the wrong one.
- If your Trelson environment was installed via Google Admin Console, users must always use Google SSO.
- If a user logs in with Microsoft SSO instead, a new and separate Trelson environment is created, which does not contain your organization’s data or settings.
What to do
If Trelson was installed via your Google domain:
- Continue using Google SSO exclusively.
- Do not install or authorize Trelson in your Microsoft Entra environment.
- Inform your users to always select "Sign in with Google" when accessing Trelson.
If your organization uses both Microsoft and Google, consider sending out a quick internal reminder to avoid confusion among staff and students.
If you want to use Trelson with Microsoft SSO instead:
We generally do not recommend switching between Google and Microsoft environments once Trelson has been integrated, as this may result in loss of data or ongoing work. However, if your organization needs to transition to Microsoft 365 integration the process must be managed to avoid the creation of duplicate environments.
To switch:
- Contact us at support@trelson.com and let us know you'd like to use the Microsoft integration instead of Google.
- We will assist you with:
- Uninstalling Trelson from your Google Admin Console.
- Installing and configuring Trelson through Microsoft Entra.
- Uninstalling Trelson from your Google Admin Console.
Do not install Trelson in both Google and Microsoft environments at the same time unless you're intentionally managing two separate environments.
Why this happens
Some organizations configure Microsoft accounts to access Google Workspace tools. While convenient, this setup can lead to confusion when users see both login options (SSO). Because our system treats each login method as separate, it’s essential that your users select the correct one that aligns with how Trelson was initially installed.
