Giving feedback is a crucial part of teaching, but it can be time-consuming to write the same comments over and over. Trelson's comment bank is a smart tool that allows you to save and reuse written feedback, which streamlines your grading process and ensures consistent feedback.
This guide will show you how to easily create your own comment bank and how to use your saved comments when grading student submissions.
Why Use the Comment Bank?
Using the comment bank in Trelson provides several benefits:
- Time-saving: You avoid writing the same feedback multiple times. A comment about a common spelling mistake or a good introduction can be reused in an instant.
- Consistent feedback: By using saved comments, you can ensure that feedback is consistent across different students and assignments.
- Easy to use: The process of both saving and reusing comments directly in the feedback view is quick and intuitive.
Step-by-Step: Create and Save a Comment to the Bank
You can build your comment bank in two ways: either by saving a comment directly from a grading session or by creating a new comment directly in the comment bank.
Method 1: Save an Existing Comment
This is the fastest way to save a comment you have already written.
- Open a student's submission: Navigate to a submission where you have written feedback.
- Click the three dots: Once you have written your comment and it is visible, click the three dots (...) within the comment card in the comment list.
- Select "Add to comment bank": A menu will appear. Select "Add to comment bank".
Method 2: Create a New Comment Directly in the Comment Bank
This is perfect for when you want to build your comment bank in advance, without needing to comment on a submission.
Open the comment bank: When you are in a submission, click the "comment bank" tab (the gray-highlighted icon) in the right-hand sidebar.
Write your comment: At the top of the field in the comment bank, there is a row where you can write your new comment. Type the text you want to save.
- Save: When you have finished typing, click "OK" to save the comment directly to the bank.
Step-by-Step: Use a Saved Comment from the Bank
Once you have saved comments, you can use them in an instant.
- Open a new comment: Go to a new part of the student's text and highlight it. A new comment box will open.
Start typing and get suggestions: Start typing a word or phrase in the comment box. Trelson will automatically search through your comment bank and suggest matching comments based on what you are typing.
- Select the saved comment: When you see the saved comment you want to use, you can select it to automatically fill the comment box.
- Edit or save: The selected comment now fills the comment box. You can either edit the text (e.g., to adapt it to the student's text) or click "OK" to save it in the student's submission.
Summary
Trelson's comment bank is an effective tool that helps you provide consistent and time-saving feedback. By easily saving and reusing comments, you can focus more on guiding your students and less on writing the same thing multiple times.
